eCompliance customers operate all over the world, and safety managers need tools that can collect data in a manner that is compatible with regional requirements, such as correctly formatted contact information for employees and companies outside Canada and the United States.
To meet this need, eCompliance now supports international phone numbers on our web application. This will enable you to maintain contact information for your employees or contractors all over the world by selecting a country code for the phone number in an employee profile or company listing.
How to update your phone number in the Employee module:
1. Log into eCompliance
2. Click on the "Employees" button on the left side of the screen
3. Select an Employee to view by clicking on the magnifying glass icon
4. Click "Edit" on the top right corner
5. Scroll down to "Phone Number" and select a Country Code, then enter a phone number following the suggested format, and if applicable enter an extension number in the box to the right
6. Scroll down and click "Save"
How to update a phone number in the Companies module:
1. Log into eCompliance
2. Click on the "Companies" button on the left side of the screen
3. Select a Company to view by clicking on the magnifying glass icon
4. Scroll down to "Phone Number" and select a Country Code then enter a phone number following the suggested format, and if applicable enter an extension number in the box to the right
5. Scroll down and click "Save"
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the phone number a required field when adding an employee to eCompliance?
No, you do not have to enter a phone number when creating a new employee either manually or via the employee import.
Do I need to select a country code when entering a new number?
Yes, a country code must be selected for any new phone number entry.
Can I type to search for a country code in the list?
Yes, you can search for a country by typing the first letter of that country's name instead of scrolling through the list.
Will I need to update the number I currently have saved in an employee profile?
If you decide to edit your profile and if your phone number does not conform to the 10 digit format for Canada or the US (for example, too few or too many digits) then you will be required to select a country code and update your number to the correct format for the selected region, before saving any changes to your profile.
If the phone number you have currently in eCompliance conforms to the 10 digit format for Canada or the US then no changes are required, even if you decide to update your profile.

How will I know if there's an issue with a current phone number?
Hint text in red will appear below the phone number input field explaining that the current number saved in eCompliance is invalid and will prompt you to select a country code and update the number according to the format for the selected region.
How do I know which format to use based on my selected country code?
There will be a set of numbers in the correct format for your selected country code as a placeholder in the phone number input field to guide you when entering a new number.
What is the phone number format I need to follow when importing employees into eCompliance?
There is no format you need to follow when importing employees into eCompliance. The rules for importing employees and companies remain unchanged at this time. Please view this support article for the details related to importing employees via the employee importer.
Will the mobile application be affected by this?
The eCompliance mobile app supports this feature as well. Users on version 7.10.0 and above can use this feature on the mobile app.
If I update my phone number on the mobile application will it show up on web?
Yes, the number you enter on the mobile application will appear the same way on web. Please note that you may have to update the phone number on web if you choose to edit your profile and if the number you entered does not conform to a 10 digit format for Canada or the US.
If I update my phone number to a new international phone number format on web, will it display on the mobile application?
Yes, the number you enter will show in the mobile application and include the country code you have selected in a single field.
