3.1 How to sync through the Sync & Connection page
1. Overview
In order to perform events on your assets on the mobile app, you must sync your site and assets to the device first. Since the devices are not always connected to the internet then they must first have the assets stored locally in your app and device in order to perform events on them.
2. First Time Syncing
To sync assets and events to your handheld device for the first time, please check the following:
- You must be connected to the internet on your device.
- Make sure that the connection is stable and will not disconnect in the middle of the sync. A sync disconnect may result in an incomplete sync where assets and sites could appear missing on your account.
Begin syncing by logging into your account on the login screen. The first time sync will immediately start.
Syncing can take a few minutes depending on the speed of your device's connection and number of elements in your account that needs to be synced.
Allow some time for the Sync to complete. Turning off the screen, switching apps in the middle of the sync or turning your device off will stop the syncing and will prevent the sync from completing.
The sync will be divided into elements that will be queued to sync.
Here on this screen, you can also track your progress:
- A cloud icon will indicate that the section is queued to be synced (see below image - Assets, Organizations, Asset types)
- The number fraction will determine the progress in which the section is syncing (see below image - Visible Orgs Tree)
- Once an section has finished syncing, the section will be removed from the screen (see below image - Users)
3. Sync & Connection
After the first time sync, we recommend you to sync the app often to save your assets and events to the cloud. This will ensure two things:
1. No assets and events are lost
2. Assets and your site information are updated with the most recent changes made by other members of your organization
Syncing your app will not ensure that all assets and jobsites are saved to the cloud. If an asset or site has been manually taken offline or if there is a scheduled assigned to an asset, these assets and sites will stay offline and will not sync.
