Shiskabob Menu - Edit Dashboard
The three vertical dots symbol serves as an element in editing and refining data inside the dashboards, located at the top right-hand side of the page just beneath the blue cog symbol. Symbolized by a Shiskabob of three dots, this menu bar is designed to provide the customer with editing capabilities for their dashboards. By clicking on the Shishkabob icon, users gain access to a suite of options to edit the tiles, and the filters and add or delete new tiles to the dashboard.
How To Add Tile Menu
1. Save or create a dashboard: Begin by saving your dashboard or creating a new one from scratch.
2. Access dashboard settings: Locate the Shiskabob symbol on the top right-hand side of the dashboard. Click on the Shiskabob to access the dashboard settings.
3. Enter edit mode: Within the dashboard settings, click on "Edit Dashboard.” Or if you are using the keyboard press the up key, the control key and E at the same time. This will activate the editing mode and display a blue bar at the top of the Dashboard.

5. Choose a tile type: Inside the "Add" menu, you'll find options like "Add Visualization," "Add Text," "Add Button,” and “Add Markdown.” Select the type of tile you want to add to your dashboard by clicking on that option.
Visualization
The visualization option within the add menu, allows users to create and integrate i tiles into their dashboards. Whether it's charts, graphs, or other visual elements, the flexibility of the visualization option ensures that users can craft tiles that effectively communicate their data-driven insights. As users leverage the visualization option to add tiles, they gain a powerful tool for enhancing the overall comprehensibility and impact of their analytical presentations.
Text
In the saved SI dashboard, the text box serves as the narrative tool, allowing you to integrate text insights with visual data graphs. This feature enables users to articulate descriptions of the unique or saved tiles within the same dashboard.
Button
The Button Tile option is a versatile tool for dashboard editors, allowing you to incorporate interactive links within the dashboard. Editors can add links that either additional content within the dashboard or navigate users to an external webpage.
Markdown
The Markdown option allows you to create another text tile that incorparate the use of some HTML and a subset of the Markdown markup language to format the tile.
Filter menu
The filter menu serves as a tool to create new dashboard filters, using the filter inside the tiles in the dashboard. This could be the site filter or particular dashboard filters. The "Add Filter" function within the Filter menu and it provides the capability to incorporate specific filters, ranging from site filters to tile filters. To utilize this feature, it's essential to create a tile first, as the filters are inherently tied to the dimensions of the visualizations within the dashboard. Once a tile is created, it grants access to filters derived from its dimensions. This process ensures that the filters align seamlessly with the visual elements of the dashboard, enhancing the precision and relevance of the filtering function.
You can also apply filters to your alerts, Applying filters to your alerts allows you to set parameters around a particular tile content. This functionality ensures that when the predefined conditions are met, an alert is triggered and sent to you via email.
Cross-Filtering
Cross-filtering is a feature in Safety Intelligence that allows users to streamline their analysis of data. It empowers users to interact with dashboards in a way that enables focused examination of specific fields through dynamic filtering. To enable cross-filtering in your dashboard, you will need to toggle the Cross-filtering option on in the Filters settings. Note that cross-filtering can only be enabled if every visualization in the dashboard is utilizing the same explore. If there is more than one explore in the dashboard, the Cross-filtering toggle will be greyed out and you will be unable to toggle it.
How does Cross-Filtering Work?
Imagine your dashboard displays all EHS-related forms, including:
- A bar chart of forms completed by an employee
- A pie chart showing forms by type - inspections, incidents, and meetings
- A detailed table that shows recent forms by their form ID with additional fields such as who it was completed by, status etc.
By clicking on a segment of the pie chart, say "inspections", cross-filtering automatically updates the bar chart and inspection list to only show data related to inspections. This will then allow you to see specifically now who is completing the most or least inspections in the updated bar chart and the data table will filter automatically as well, to provide details on only inspection forms.
Cross-filtering not only makes your dashboards more engaging but also empowers you to explore your data in a more intuitive and efficient manner.
Settings menu
The settings menu allows you to control the operation aspects of the dashboard. You can manage the run load, determine which visualization is eligible for full-screen mode, and automatic refresh settings. Additionally, you have the flexibility to configure individual tile refresh intervals, offering control over both the overall dashboard and specific components within it.
Top 2 key takeaways from this lesson are:
- Understanding what you can do in a Saved Dashboard.
- Learning the navigate the saved Dashboard interface effectively and also the ability to create a new tile in your dashboard.
Homework - To solidify your grasp of these concepts, complete the following:
- Create three different tiles and add them to your dashboard.
- Add filters to your dashboard.
- Create a few tiles that use cross-filtering.
